DirectHer Board Basics Workshop hosted by CHOA and presented by ATB
October 22 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
Join DirectHer, CHOA and ATB on October 22, 2021 from 11 am-1 pm for a special presentation of DirectHer’s Board Basics workshop.
Who is DirectHer? DirectHer is an Alberta-based charity supporting an expanded pool of women to become board directors. Through accessible and relatable governance education and an inclusive community, we are helping diverse women get on boards, sooner.
What to expect: This event will start with an exploration of gender diversity on boards – including where we are at, and why we should all care about moving the needle. From there, the DirectHer team will teach you the fundamentals of being a director, including: a director’s role, various governing models, common language and process, basic director financial literacy and more. We are excited to have three special panelists joining us for this event, who will speak about their experiences on boards throughout:
- Sue MacKenzie, Director for Enerplus, Freehold Royalties Ltd., Precision Drilling Corporation and Meg Energy
- Louisa De Carlo, Director for CHOA
- Manjit Minhas, Director for ATB Financial, YYC Calgary Airport Authority, Alberta Small Brewers Association, Spiritleaf Cannabis (Inner Spirit Holdings) and United Way.
Who should attend? Anyone! DirectHer, CHOA and ATB welcome gender diverse participants who are allies in gender equality and interested in learning more about governance (especially those who are new to board governance or are looking for a refresher on foundational concepts).
Registration details: This is a limited, availability webinar event. After completing this first step registration, you will receive a link by e-mail to register for the webinar virtual room. PRE REGISTRATION IS MANDATORY

Learn More about CHOA and ATB:
For 35 years, the Canadian Heavy Oil Association (CHOA) has worked to strengthen Canada’s energy industry by providing our members, sponsors, and the general public with technical, educational and social programs that accelerate and expand their knowledge, relationships and influence in our heavy oil and oil sands community. With over 2000 members and events that engage thousands more industry professionals each year, CHOA provides sponsors a direct channel to reach the key executives, consultants and managers in all aspects of the heavy oil community.
ATB Financial, we put people first. We’ve been doing it for more than 80 years. In that time, we’ve grown and changed from one small Treasury Branch to become the largest Alberta-based financial institution, with assets of more than $55.1 billion. Along the way, we’ve transformed people’s understanding of what banking can–and should–make possible. And we’re just getting started.
