Environmental, social and governance (ESG) is a hot topic in the financial market and many Canadian energy companies have incorporated ESG reporting in response to this global investment trend. The rise of ESG coincided with increasing public demand for climate and environmental justice and tightening government regulation but ESG focus goes beyond emissions. ESG covers a wide range of topics from land use, water use, indigenous relationships, board diversity, emissions, labour practices and much more.
