David Yager, Writer, Author, Energy Analyst, Oil Service Executive
David’s journalism career began 40 years ago as co-owner of an oilfield trade magazine. For decades he has been analyzing and writing about oil and gas, politics, and energy policy. He remains a frequent contributor to trade publications, newspapers, radio, and television and has written background papers and policy positions for oil service trade associations since 1991.
He is the author of From Miracle to Menace – Alberta, A Carbon Story, published in 2019. This book covers the history of Alberta’s oil and gas business, how climate change became a major societal and political issue, and the future of Alberta’s oil industry in a world attempting to decarbonize its energy infrastructure.
David is currently the President and CEO of Winterhawk Casing Expansion, an oil service company that has developed a unique and proprietary technology that uses controlled expansion of the production casing for wellbore remediation, This technology uses the casing as a remedial tool, not just a barrier. By changing the characteristics of the wellbore annulus without perforating or injecting materials, casing expansion can be used for Surface Casing Vent Flow shutoff, precision vent gas source diagnostics, location of best intervals for re-sealing the annulus (duplicating the characteristics of the original cap rock), and enhanced remedial cementing.
