RODGER BERNAR
Founder and CEO
Archer BD
Rodger Bernar, P.Eng., MBA is an energy technology entrepreneur, inventor, and commercialization executive with more than 40 years of experience advancing industrial technologies from concept to commercial deployment. As Founder and CEO of Archer BD, he leads the commercialization of ibex™, a patented steam-bitumen co-production technology designed to simplify SAGD surface facilities, reduce capital intensity, lower emissions intensity, and enable modular, phased growth of oil sands developments.
Throughout his career, Rodger has worked at the intersection of process engineering, business strategy, management, technology development, intellectual property, and project execution. His experience spans heavy oil production, steam generation, water treatment, partial upgrading, carbon management, refining, sulfur recovery, and clean-energy technologies. He has evaluated and developed dozens of emerging technologies and has helped secure government and industry funding to advance projects from early-stage development through field demonstration and commercialization.
Prior to founding Archer BD, Rodger held senior leadership roles with Husky Energy, Petronas Energy Canada, Cnergreen Corp., Quadrise Canada Fuels, and Marsulex, where he led technology evaluation, commercialization, strategic partnerships, business development, and innovation initiatives. His career has consistently focused on identifying technologies that improve economics while reducing risk and environmental impact.
Today, Rodger is recognized for his ability to bridge the gap between invention and implementation. His work on ibex™ reflects a broader belief that Canada's oil sands industry does not lack innovation, but rather needs better pathways to commercial adoption. Through collaboration among operators, innovators, EPCs, fabricators, investors, and governments, he advocates for practical approaches that move technologies from pilot projects into scalable commercial solutions that strengthen the competitiveness and sustainability of the industry.
