2024 CONNECTS PROGRAM

This business-oriented conference brings together subject matter experts, upper management and influential industry professionals with a common goal – to seize the opportunities of the energy transformation and forge a profitable and sustainable future for heavy oil. Session #2: Unlocking Value: Advanced Heavy Oil Well Design, Two SAGD Project Updates (10:30 – 12:30)

  • Multilateral Well Performance and Economics – Production/economic performance of W Canada multilaterals, with case studies and comparisons to the Montney and Permian – Pavey Gill (Evaluation Engineer, McDaniel & Associates)
  • The Multilateral Wells Drilling Revolution – Innovative multilateral well designs and their operational risks and benefits – Calin Dragoie (VP Geoscience, Chinook Consulting)
  • AOC’s Leismer SAGD Pad 8 Update – FCDs, ramp up and conformance – Christina Ng (Reservoir Engineering Team Lead, Athabasca Oil Corporation)
  • IPC’s Blackrod Phase 1 SAGD Project Update – Update and learnings to date on this recently FIDd 30,000 b/d greenfield SAGD Project – Brad Gordon (Blackrod Asset Lead, IPC Canada Ltd.) 

This session delves into advancements in multilateral well design and their application across the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin. We will also explore the economics behind current SAGD pad development in the McMurray, and the status of a key project in the Grand Rapids.
