ENERGY CHANGEMAKERS: New Technologies to Revamp Production

May 30 @ 7:30 am - 9:00 am

$55.00 – $75.00

Welcome to CHOA’s Energy Changemakers!

CHOA’s year-long  technical series features insightful, interactive talks by technical and business leaders who are shaping the future of Canadian energy. This year, the presentations focus on Decarbonization, Greenfield SAGD, Multi-lateral Horizontal Heavy Oil Strategies, Solvent-Assisted Processes, New Technologies and Case Studies. Each event includes dedicated time to network and learn from each other.

Let’s get together and learn something new!

ABSTRACTS:

  • Improving Production with Digital Technology

The Canadian Heavy Oil Industry has undergone disruptive change from the roll out of new technologies and organizational changes brought on by an ever-changing business environment.  Traditionally thought of as being disruptive themselves, this talk will discuss how digital technology can be harnessed to improve production performance.  Two case studies will be presented, one that focuses on improving production performance of the future by better screening new technology options, and the second that focuses on improving production performance of existing wells.

  • Enhancing Heavy Oil Production with Proven and Patented Science and Client Successes

In this presentation, Dr. Douglas S. Hamilton, Chief Technology Officer at Enercat, will share insights on the company’s innovative approach to improving heavy oil production. With over 40 years of experience in the petroleum and coal industries, Dr. Hamilton brings a wealth of knowledge in reservoir geology and characterization. Enercat’s technology, which has seen over 4,000 installations worldwide, utilizes proprietary vibrational frequencies to disrupt intermolecular forces, thereby reducing paraffin deposition and oil density. This has led to stabilized production, equipment wear/pressure, and increased flow efficiency without altering the oil’s inherent properties. Case studies, including a significant increase in API Gravity of Kansas’s Easton Field, will be discussed to demonstrate the tool’s effectiveness. The session will also explore Enercat’s contributions to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and invite collaboration for future advancements.

SPEAKERS:

  • Dr. Damien Hocking is a co-founder of Madala Software, a developer of cloud-based production optimization software based in Calgary, Canada. Madala’s technology provides an automated Digital Twin of the production system, enabling O&G Producers to analyze and increase their production performance and sustain forecasts and targets. Madala’s clients include major bitumen and unconventional producers. Prior to founding Madala, Dr. Hocking consulted to MEG Energy, Honeywell, Neotec and HTRI and held technology leadership roles at Computer Modelling Group, KBC Advanced Technologies, Aspen Technology and Hyprotech Ltd. r Hocking is originally from Australia, where his first real job was learning to herd sheep. He quickly realized that the dog was a lot better at it than him and he should look at a different career.

  • Dr. Douglas S. Hamilton is a US-based Consulting Geologist. He has more than 40 years international experience in the petroleum and coal industries – over 30 years as a reservoir geologist conducting fully integrated geological and engineering reservoir characterization projects on conventional and non-conventional (coal-bed methane, tight gas sand and shale) reservoirs. Dr. Hamilton worked in the Coal Industry in Australia through the 1980’s, The University of Texas at Austin, Bureau of Economic Geology as a Research Scientist through the 1990’s and then International Consulting and Advisory Roles to major National Oil Companies including PDVSA (Venezuela) and PEMEX (Mexico) till the present. Dr. Hamilton has been associated with the Enercat Technology Group since 2005 providing technical and sales advice in Venezuela, India, Russia and Mexico and more recently in the US oil markets of California, Texas, Kansas and New Mexico. Dr. Hamilton has authored more than 40 publications on depositional systems and reservoir characterization and received several Best Paper awards for his research on reservoir characterization, and coal. Dr. Hamilton holds Bachelor’s (Hons) and Ph.D degrees in Geology from the University of Sydney, Australia.
